Affordable and Fantastic Financial Tool

Every investor who makes investment decisions needs financial data. I found a new provider that has a neat product at an extremely low price. I joined instantly when I learned of Koyfin.

On Wall Street in the 80s, I became accustomed to Bloomberg. I can't knock it at all except for the price, which is very high. In Houston, I migrated from the Bloomberg terminal after I left a job to StockVal, which was ultimately acquired by Reuters two decades ago (the Bridge transaction). Reuters merged with Thomson and ended up killing StockVal. I used Baseline, their inferior product, but have been looking for a replacement since then!

I found Sentieo in 2018 and loved it, but Sentieo was acquired by AlphaSense and integrated into their system. I don't intend to tell everyone about my frustration with that company, but this reinforces the idea that acquisitions can kill companies (like the Reuters buy of StockVal!).

As an investor and analyst, I do care about financial data. For my Seeking Alpha articles and for my 420 Investor service, I need access to analyst estimates of future sales and earnings, and this was my biggest challenge. After a long and fruitless search, I found the answer: Koyfin

Based in London, the company has been around since 2016. Co-founded by CEO Rob Koyfman, the team has 30 people working in the US, Argentina, Ukraine and the UK. In 2023, the company hit 500K users, up from 200K in 2021.

Through Koyfin, I get access to the forward estimates of the analysts (and their changes over time), but I get so much more. I think that what it offers should appeal to professional investors but also anyone that invests on their own. Stocks, bonds and all types of securities are covered. There is good coverage of the markets globally. One can always go to the SEC website to get the historical financials, but this is so much easier and so much more complete. The graphics are excellent and very flexible.

I really like Koyfin's "About" page on their website. They explain their philosophy:

  • They put their users first

  • They keep things simple

  • They harness the power of technology

Try it! There is a free trial of 7 days of Advisor Pro, and all of the plans that they offer are discounted by 20% through this referral.

I signed up for Plus. I got a Black Friday special that totaled almost $400 for a year instead of a bit over $500 at full-price, but even full-price would have made a lot of sense. I have replaced something that I was paying $5000 a year for. Many individual investors will be fine with the free version. Go for it!
